Buzz Aldrin video misused again as Kardashian fuels decades-old moon-landing conspiracy

A new episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians has caused a stir online after Kim Kardashian appeared to support a long-running conspiracy theory — that the 1969 moon landing was faked. During filming for her upcoming legal drama series All’s Fair, Kardashian was seen discussing the topic with her co-star Sarah Paulson.

Kim Kardashian Sparks Controversy Over Moon Landing Claim

In the scene, Kardashian tried to convince Paulson that astronauts never actually traveled beyond Earth’s orbit. “I’m sending you a million articles with both Buzz Aldrin and the other one,” Kardashian said, referring to the astronauts who took part in the Apollo 11 mission. She then began reading an article that she claimed supported her belief that the lunar landing was a hoax.

The reality TV star added that she often “centers conspiracies” and openly stated on camera that she believes the moon landing never happened. This unexpected statement quickly spread online, with fans, skeptics, and space enthusiasts reacting to her comments across social media platforms.

While conspiracy theories surrounding the moon landing have existed for decades, Kardashian’s global influence and massive online following gave the discussion fresh momentum. Some viewers found her remarks entertaining, while others criticized her for spreading misinformation about one of humanity’s greatest scientific achievements.

NASA Responds to Kardashian’s Remarks

It did not take long for NASA to respond. On Thursday, acting NASA administrator Sean Duffy addressed Kardashian’s claim directly on X (formerly Twitter). In a firm but light-hearted tone, Duffy wrote: “Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!” His post quickly gained attention, racking up thousands of likes and shares.

Duffy also used the opportunity to remind people of NASA’s historical and ongoing space missions. He mentioned that under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the Artemis program is preparing to return astronauts to the Moon. “We won the last space race and we will win this one too,” Duffy added.

NASA’s response highlighted that the U.S. space agency conducted six successful manned lunar missions between 1969 and 1972. These included Apollo 11, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, followed by several missions that conducted scientific experiments, collected lunar rock samples, and deployed research instruments.

For decades, NASA has maintained an extensive record of these missions, including thousands of photographs, hours of video footage, and physical samples brought back from the lunar surface. Many of these materials have been studied by scientists around the world, confirming the authenticity of the missions beyond any reasonable doubt.

Fact-Check: The Truth Behind Buzz Aldrin’s Viral Clip

The controversy also revived an old video clip of astronaut Buzz Aldrin that Kim Kardashian mentioned while speaking to Sarah Paulson, suggesting it proved the moon landing was staged. However, Reuters had already debunked the clip in 2022. The video, showing Aldrin in an interview with Conan O’Brien, was taken out of context by conspiracy theorists. Aldrin was referring to animations used by TV broadcasters in 1969 to illustrate parts of the mission not captured by cameras.

Reuters clarified that these animations were simply visual aids, not evidence of a hoax, confirming that “the moon landing did take place, and men did walk on the moon.”

Despite strong scientific evidence, moon landing conspiracies have persisted for decades, often citing shadows, flag movement, and missing stars in photos. Experts have long explained these details through physics and the Moon’s environment.

Kardashian’s comments reignited public debate, prompting NASA to remind audiences that the Apollo missions remain among the most well-documented achievements in history. The Apollo 11 mission, in particular, continues to stand as a powerful symbol of human determination and discovery.
